How do I change comparable value (time span) on proposals?

In our commitment to helping the solar industry grow further, we made it a lot easier to calculate and present savings to homeowners who chose to have energy home improvements. This includes savings calculations, as well as the environmental impact.

To make these calculations easier to visualize, we give projects a time span. Estimated values are based on the assumption that a project will be beneficial for homeowners for 30 years. We call this time span the comparable value and it is set to 30 years by default.  This article outlines how it is set and how you can update it.

Where can I see the Comparable Value on a proposal?

Here are some screenshots of where the comparable value is used on the Proposal:

Savings calculations

Environmental impact

Cost comparison (against not switching to solar)

We use it on cash flows too!

We understand that 30 years won't always work for all situations, such as shorter loan terms, or TPOs, so we made it possible to edit the comparable value on your organization's settings.

How do I change the Comparable Value?

To do so, simply follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Click Proposal Phase on the left panel.

  3. Choose Defaults on the tabs

  4. Click Edit for Comparable Value.

  5. Choose between the options.

  6. Click Save.

What terms are available to be set for the Comparable Value?

Right now, you can set the comparable value to 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years. You also have the option to set it to be the same as the Contract Term.

Can I set a different Comparable Value for varying contexts?

Yes you can! You can now set a comparable value depending on the type of Project you’re having (Retrofit, Solar only, Solar + Storage + EE, etc).

To do so, just follow these steps:

Go to Comparable Value and click Edit.

Below the Default, you’ll see a button that says Add Context. Click that.

You can then select a Project Type and Term. A list of options will be listed on the dropdown menu for each.

Once you’ve selected the project type and term, you can either click on Add Context (this will save the context you made), or the trash icon (this will discard the changes you made).

You can add as many contexts as you need, but only one context will be set for each project type.

Available project types at the moment are:

  • Solar

  • EE

  • Storage

  • Solar + EE

  • Solar + Storage

  • Solar + EE + Storage

  • Solar (retrofit)

  • EE (retrofit)

  • Storage (retrofit)

  • Solar + EE (retrofit)

  • Solar + Storage (retrofit)
